New to the forum. Im going to be building an 818 from factory 5 racing soon. Model years i can use are 2002-2007. Which year is the best? Im mostly concerned with the brakes and the drivetrain. The drivetrain will be modded to get the most out of the package but very new to the subaru so which is the better platform to start with? Thanks!

Oh man! That looks like an amazing project! Have fun :)

06 is considered best WRX year by many. You will benefit a lot from the 2.5L block (06-07) and a slightly better transmission. The brakes are also better than previous years.

Would love it if you posted progress and questions on here as you go through the build!

The rear suspension in the GD (02-07) is trash. As somebody who owned both, that's the biggest difference. that and the 15+ backseat is surprisingly spacious.

It's not a question of the struts and springs. The double wishbone in the 08+ is just a better platform to work with. Higher springrates and stiffer struts will not fix that. The GD wagon had a flatter rear space than the 08+ "hatches". The price of a proper rear suspension.

the EJ207 fits... use that

also dont go 6 speed. get a 5 speed with 2005-2008 LGT Gearset.

the 818 has different suspension geomerty but its silimar yes. its not double wishbone, but its better setup than the 02-07. also beefier components.
