Subaru WRX Reverse Light LED

At Diode Dynamics, we carry a full line of LED bulbs, including three different levels of brightness for your reverse light or backup light bulb. We carry the brightest, highest-quality bulbs on the market, which we have designed in St. Louis, Missouri. Your order will ship same day, and we're here if you need us for support and service. Every bulb carries with it a three-year limited warranty.

Your purchase includes two LED bulbs, for perfect fitment in your Subaru WRX Model year selection.

Bulb Design

(921 Bulb Models)

HP36: Full 360 degree illumination with 36 High-Power Samsung LEDs. Aluminum base for optimum heatsinking, and non-polar design for easy installation.

XP50: Each of the four sides of this bulb contains two 5W-rated chips, and the top is fitted with two more under a projector lens. Housed in an aluminum casing with textured finish for maximum heatsinking properties.

(7440 Bulb Models)

HP11: Four side-firing 1.5W-rated Osram LED chips, and one 5W-rated LED chip on top, which is projected by a lens for maximum effective brightness. The bulb is housed in a machined aluminum casing, which provides superior heat diffusion for long life.

XP80: Each of the four sides of this bulb contains three 5W-rated chips, and the top is fitted with four more under a projector lens. This is the brightest self-contained automotive LED bulb on the market, and is housed in an aluminum casing with a textured finish for maximum heatsinking properties.

Included in your order is TWO BULBS.

COLOR

These LEDs illuminate in a crisp, cool, bright, white hue for maximum light output.

BRIGHTNESS

Diode Dynamics offers several brightness options so you can choose what fits you best. These options are listed by the design and the lumen output of each bulb:

(921 Bulb Models)

HP36: (210 lumens) Slightly higher brightness than OEM bulbs.
XP50: (410 lumens) Much brighter than OEM bulbs. These are bright!

(7440 Bulb Models)
HP11: (310 lumens) Slightly higher brightness than OEM bulbs.
XP80: (510 lumens) Much brighter than OEM bulbs. These are bright!

Lumens. BUYER BEWARE! Most sellers just provide "calculated" lumen numbers, based on the maximum potential brightness of the LED chips on the bulb. For example, if a bulb has five 10-lumen chips, they will rate it at 50 lumens. However, this is not accurate, as the design of an LED bulb does not get rid of heat fast enough to run the LEDs at maximum.

These "calculated" lumen ratings are much, much higher than the true, measured light output, so it will look like competitors' bulbs are brighter than ours. This is because Diode Dynamics does not provide inflated "calculated" numbers; we believe it is misleading. We test the actual brightness of the bulbs in our lab, to provide real lumen output measurements. Our measurements are accurate, but they are usually much lower than the misleading "calculated" figures. Please click here to learn more about LED brightness measurement.

QUALITY

LED Components. Diode Dynamics uses only the highest quality LED chips in the production of its bulbs. This means only brand-name suppliers such as Epistar, Cree, Osram, and Samsung.

While Diode Dynamics bulbs may look the same as others on the market, most copycat bulbs use economy-grade LED chips in order to reduce costs. This greatly reduces the reliability and overall brightness of the bulb when you compare it to Diode Dynamics.

Construction. Although LED technology allows for extremely long bulb life, the market is flooded with cheap LED bulbs that fail prematurely due to inferior construction. The worst enemy of LEDs is excessive heat, and when bulbs are not designed properly, they do not disperse heat as well, leading to premature failure.

Off-brand, cheap bulbs exhibit poor solder uniformity, high levels of flux in the solder, uneven chip placement, low-gauge terminal wires, poor assembly, and bulbs held together with inferior adhesives. At best, solder joints will crack and fail on low-quality LEDs after a few weeks of use. In the worst case, these bulbs can damage housings as the extra flux and adhesive evaporates and creates a residue on the lens of the housing.

Diode Dynamics bulbs are produced with modern, computerized equipment, and only the best materials, to ensure complete uniformity, high quality, and long bulb life.

All Diode Dynamics products come with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a 3-year limited replacement warranty.

Please fix your website, your listing for 2002-2010 wrx reverse lights will not fit. I purchased a pair months ago and they are too big. I tried using them as brake ligts, as those will fit but had mixed lucj with them. The ones on the site fit a 7443 bulb, wich is the same size as a brake light but not the reverse lights. The reverse bulb on the 2010 wrx is bulb 7440 or 921. A 7443 bulb will not fit.
Fitment aside, the bulbs are super bright!

The 7440/3 bulbs have the same base fitment. The 7443 is a dual-filament bulb with incandescent bulb models, but with LED, there's no difference.

1156 is different than 1157 because there are two contacts on the base of the bulb vs. one, but that's not an issue with 7440/3 bulbs.

We are still in the process of updating our listings, but these bulbs will fit.

Additionally, we also have a product for the 2015+ models that will convert the factory LED tail lights to tail & turn signals, which allows you to convert the factory turn signal into an additional reverse light (which is a 7440)

Thanks!

So I had to do some research because that is the same response I got when I purchased them. I figure how can a company that sells replacement bulbs be wrong? But how can mine not fit?

7440 and 7443 are interchangeable, but only one way interchangeable. By that I mean that a 7443 bulb can go in a 7440 socket, but a 7440 bulb cannot go in a 7443 socket.

I looked again at your website, specifically for the 2002-2010 fitment. On the description page, the fitment is indicated for a 7440 bulb. On the Fitment tab however, it is listed as 7443.

I did order the XP80s as they are listed on the webpage as being compatible, and I wanted the maximum amount of light possible. Looking at your post however, I can see that you separated out 921 and 7440 bulbs. It is not done that way on the website.

Just trying to save someone else the trouble of spending $90 on two bulbs that cant be used for the application that they wanted.

The first photo is of the bulbs I received.
The second photo is the bulb I received next to the reverse light socket, clearly the bulb is to large.
The third and fourth photo show the LEDs next to me reverse bulbs, showing that the 7440 reverse lights are about half the size of the 7443 LEDs.

Your factory bulbs are 921's, which are not available in the XP80 model. They are available in XP50. (921 is too small to support XP80).

It appears that you ordered 7440 XP80s, which are listed for 2002-2010 WRX model years. We will look into that listing and make sure all the sizes are accurate.

We can easily swap those bulbs you received for the correct 921 XP50's, please contact us: (314) 205-3033 and we will get you taken care of.

I apologize for the confusion, but please give us the opportunity to send you replacements

For future reference:
That is a 921-bulb socket. The bulb in your hand is a 7440-size

These are our 921 bulb options:
