Sweet, that would be so awesome to not have to have that stupid thing in the front.

i guess I'm ahead of the game, took mine off long ago. I keep it along with some extra screws under the seat for a quick fix....just in case!

Never understood the point of them. Seems like every out of state vehicle around here that has one, it's all banged up anyway. Must get in the way a lot too.

its just a stupid law! here in ct you are required to have a front plate but if you go to the mall on Saturday every other car in the lot doesn't have one so whats the hell is the point?

cutting away the plate could be considered 'improper display' and be worht a ticket. could be worse as teh license plate could be considered invalid, requiring a replacement. you would be better off to stick it on the dash, and if the pigz object, just mount it to the front and (potentially) avoid a ticket.

i'm in WI with front plates, but i just keep them on the dash.

in wisconsin, you are better off to have no plate than the wrong plate. you see cars going around with no plates all day.

i myself drive an unregistered gl from another state with a bad wheel bearing and plates to a car i crushed just to save fuel economy.

good luck

One would think with Washington state billions in debt and all the "Greenies" around removal of the front plate would be a no brainer! No front plate = less materials, less postage to ship them, less natural resources used to make the front plate and less administration.

Here's why we must have them in CA (CA veh. code sect. and my humble opinion):

5200. (a) When two license plates are issued by the department for
use upon a vehicle, they shall be attached to the vehicle for which
they were issued, one in the front and the other in the rear.
(b) When only one license plate is issued for use upon a vehicle,
it shall be attached to the rear thereof, unless the license plate is
issued for use upon a truck tractor, in which case the license plate
shall be displayed in accordance with Section 4850.5.

5201. License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the
vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from
swinging, shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly visible,
and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible.
The rear license plate shall be mounted not less than 12 inches nor
more than 60 inches from the ground, and the front license plate
shall be mounted not more than 60 inches from the ground, except as
follows:...

The rest consists of special cases for rear plates on different types of vehicles. Anyway, key words in sect. 5201 are "securely fastened", "mounted", "clearly visible", and "clearly legible." Unfortunately, if you have an understanding of legalese, you will realize that the addition of the word "clearly" automatically creates a situation where the enforcement of the law will be based on the peace officer's judgement. If I were a peace officer (in CA) I could easily defend that a plate in the front window may be within the height requirement, but is not "clearly" visible or "clearly" legible (windows can give off a glare both during the day and at night).

As a teenager, I was once pulled over for having no front plate (only). He used it as an opportunity to "hunt" for anything else he could. After 20 minutes of politely and respectfully putting up with his intimidation BS, he finally gave up on me. That was the moment I decided that running without a front plate was only an invitation to CA law enforcement personnel to develop a more personal relationship with me.

In CA, I really don't envision the law changing. The businesses that run the red light cameras hold more clout with government officials than any group of petitioners would in my opinion. Additionally, with newer cars having less vertical flat surfaces, a reflective CA front license plate makes a great target for law enforcement officers to point the laser gun at.

That being said, I wish the best to the citizens of Washington State with this license plate removal petition!

the whole front plate thing is a bunch of crap..
my friend took off his front plate so he could put on a little thing that has WRX molded into it *it uses the front plate mounting holes..*
he took it(plate) off for a car show in may *carlisle performance and style*
and that i know of he hasnt been pulled over for it.. so no front plate but still having the rear plate cant be that big of a deal.. here in Jersey atleast.

I once saw a smart (ass) guy, that mounted his front plate onto his Yakima roof rack's spoiler-like thing... Although it didn't look great, I think it was clever, roof racks don' look good anyway and kids nowdays cover the spoiler like thing with dumb stickers... At least it was not blocking any air inlet in the front bumper...

I got two tickets for $35 two days in a row while I was parked right after we bought my wife's corvette. There really is nowhere to put one. But we've had it for close to a year now and haven't been pulled over for it. I really want to put a delete plate on the subaru... it'd be nice if this went somewhere.

Even dogs know front license plates are unnecessary:

Hahahaha that's awesome.. I'd love to get rid of my front plate, but that's just asking for trouble. My exhaust is too loud anyway, so I don't need another excuse to get pulled over. But if they got rid of the law, you better believe mine would be off.
