Rattle/ Vibration/ shudder 1st gear .

So I have a 2003 wrx... and I keep getting this crazy vibration/shudder/chatter when engaging the clutch from a stop . So I'm at a stop sign .. engage the clutch ..put in first gear ... start letting go of the clutch while giving it gas and once the car starts moving the car shakes like crazy until I fully let go of the clutch . By the way the vibration isn't felt as much if I rev it More than 2 rpm but anything below that makes it vibrate like crazy. Also if my car is in 2nd gear and I am a little bit beneath 2rpms such like 1700 rpms and I give it more gas there is a grinding noise until I hit around 2rpms.

My car does it too. Because it's an AWD system, engaging the clutch bogs down the motor and puts a lot of stress onto the drivetrain. Unlike weaker cars with 2 drive wheels, I found engaging the clutch on a WRX is very different since in a weaker car the clutch has more slip and engages smoothly. On the wrx you gotta give more gas and engage pretty quickly.

Has it always done it? Or is this a new thing that all of a sudden started happening?

If it's number 2, then I would say it's totally normal. Give it more gas as you start engaging the clutch.
Might not be the stock clutch, or engine/tranny mounts. Harder mounts increase NVH a good bit, and a HD clutch will want higher RPM for takeoff compared to stock. And I agree with Ruso, AWD is going to be "rougher" during takeoff.
Sorry for gravedigging but did you ever happen to fix this issue? I'm on a stage 3 clutch with no supporting mods, no rpm under 3k seems to be sufficient to stop the knocking.

Wow! 3k? I've not heard of a clutch that requires 3k of revs? Stock motor?
Possibly it is such heavy-springed it has to be? Hell with that, sheesh, gotta sound like you're drag racing from every stop light.

Lol yeah, It's pretty fun, kinda suprised my clutch/drivetrain aren't toast by now. But yeah, 06 WRX, stock motor with a slightly upgraded turbo.
