Just got a 2002 wrx wagon not too long ago. thinking about replacing stock downpipe and cat back with aftermarket 3" Catted downpipe, But having no third cat after downpipe. Does this pose a problem? Such as O2 sensor readings, check engine issues or tuning?

Replacing the downpipe with one that has a catalytic converter is a good plan, as it's good for the environment and will cause fewer headaches later.

It's also a good idea to replace the turbo up-pipe to one WITHOUT a catalytic convertor, to protect the turbo. Later model WRXs and all STi's have no cat in their turbo up-pipe.

Glad to see this post I also have the same car and am interested in the topic. I have been looking for a good exhaust set and the range of price is huge if any one has advice on good products it would be greatly appreciated.
