2016 STi with about 68-70k miles on her. My next oil change sticker read 66k miles or so. So I was a little over my due date, and I’m driving on the highway on cruise control and all of a sudden I lose cruise and check engine comes on. It starts making a knocking noise when I accelerate and decelerate. There wasn’t a check oil light on or anything before that. I take it in and they tell me my engine bearings are damaged due to dangerously low oil levels. So I essentially need a whole new engine now as I’m being told that’s the best solution and warranty won’t cover because it is due to heat damage from the oil. My question is does any of this sound right?? I can’t imagine being 2-3k miles over my due date would cause this much damage? I know these Subaru engines aren’t the best but I’m just trying to figure out if I’m being screwed over here.
