Hey guys I just took delivery of my 2022 WRX a few days ago and when I drove it off the lot they did not tell me about the break-in time.... I found that out the next day... But in the first few hundred miles I actually accidentally hit the rev limiter twice.... Nothing obvious has changed with how the car runs, but I'm paranoid I did something very bad but half the articles online about break in Say drive it like you stole it asap.....what are your experiences with this topic???....

I just picked my 2022 WRX up on Aug 6th from Irvine Subaru, doing my break in. This is my fifth Subaru and I've done the break in with every one of them. Try to limit the rev's above 4K I know its hard but it's worth it. Avoid cruise control for now. The FA24 engine is much more durable and reliable than past engines (like the 2.5T), so keep that in mind, because it's a good thing. I currently have a 2021 Ascent as well and my break in was a drive to Sedona and back, about 750 miles round trip. I've put about 300 miles on my new WRX so far, driving it on windy roads, fwy, in town, you're breaking in the entire drive train and the brakes remember. Smoother the better but don't be afraid to rev it up to 4k either, it's very hard not to hit that especially with the new gear box. You'll be fine, just don't red line every red light :)

Thank you, the dealer also told me that these motors are bench broken in... Supposedly They run them for "100 miles" on the bench before they even put them in the car...... I don't know if that's true or not but that's what I was told.
I now have 900 miles on mine and everything seems great. I just got back from a 300 plus mile road trip that involved lots of winding roads from Eugene Oregon all the way down the coast almost to California and I actually verified that I got 27 mpg!!!! The car's computer said 28.5 but my math said 27...... And on the way back the car said over 30 a few times and by the end of the trip it said 29.8....when I fill it up here in a couple days I will let everyone know what the actual MPG was but I'm thinking it's probably going to be 28-29ish.... The only two hesitations I had about buying this car was reliability and MPG but it looks like things are going to work out in my favor so I'm super excited because this thing is a beast when you want it to be but completely tame when you don't :) :)

Awesome and glad to hear it! Notice any power increase since you started driving? Those MPG numbers match mine as well. I will be putting a bit larger tires on mine that will sync the actual mileage and speed to the computers. Like you stated the numbers are usually off a bit, but that can be offset. :) Any thoughts on the gear box ratios? Too high, too low?

No noticeable power gains yet....1st gear gets to redline QUICK. 6th is great.... With the broad torque curve you can drive in 6th at 40 mph+ with no downshifts...btw when should i do my first oil change?

6,000 miles. Fyi, if you poke around, there's a maintenance schedule page on your infotainment screen that will give you live updates on where you're at for common maintenance. One of the many nifty little things on the new wrex's that I like. I got the base model but I'm sure its on the upper end models as well.

It's a 30-40k+ vehicle and you think you broke it by hitting the Rev limiter prior to 1000 miles? Jesus christ. If anyone car maker has a vehicle that breaks because you.....drove your car. They clearly have larger issues. It's a sophisticated machine from 2022. You didn't break it.
