I'm replacing the 5 speed manual transmission in my son's 2008 WRX.

I'm at the stage where I will be removing both front axles. Normally I would remove the 2 19 mm bolts on the strut, but I do not recognize the bolts that are in there now. I fully expected to see a camber bolt for the top bolt. Normally I would mark the location and remove the bolts, but I'm not familiar with the setup on this 2008 WRX. So in short can I separate the lower part of the ball joint from the lower arm and get the axle out that way? I posted pictures so you can see...

Loosen the 14mm that holds the lower ball joint in tight and then hit the lower control arm with a hammer and the ball joint will slide out. You might have to loosen an end link on the sway bar to free up more wiggle room but I didn’t have to. Once the ball joint is separated you can pull the entire hub assembly as needed to slide the axle out.
There’s a pin on the inner part of the axle and you can knock it out with a punch to free it from the center differential.
