    @gregwhiteshark, how'd the trip go?

    Problem Diagnosis
A broken turbo would not usually destroy an engine but a broken engine (metal in your oil) would most certainly destroy a turbo pretty quickly.

man, thanks for working to bring another one back from the dead. The Subaru angels will bless you in other ways :)
  4. "Loxxy" Budget Built 08 WRX [unique/custom fabrication]

    Builds
I never liked the back end of the 08-14 hatch because the roof line was too far in from the rear bumper. The spoiler kinda helps the line. I don't usually go for that sort of thing but looks better.
  5. So i did a thing

    The Hangout
You know, there's this thing called a "factory suspension height". It's almost like somebody (couldn't imagine who) got a room full of engineers to carefully design a suspension system to balance NVH with performance and tested it over a variety of road surfaces and conditions. Though I feel...

  7. Ej25?

    Cylinder Head & Short Block
Subaru doesn't mark the full engine description there. The bottom end is an EJ25, shared with other EJ25's (like the EJ257). The full engine code starts EJ255 and then a bunch of gibberish. The EJ255 and EJ257 are the same bore and stroke, the heads are a little different is all.

  9. 2013 wrx wheel fitment

    Wheels, Tires, Brakes, and Suspension
    Better sure. 18x8.5" +30 is 21mm further in than 18x9.5" +22 (30-22 = 8mm, 9.5-8.5 = 1in * 25.4 = 25.4mm /2 for each side is 12.7mm. 12.7mm+8mm = 21mm). So instead of being 36mm from reasonable you're talking now like 16mm from reasonable. Stiff springs, some serious camber, probably a fender...

I would recommend you find something with more offset than +36
  11. 2013 wrx wheel fitment

    Wheels, Tires, Brakes, and Suspension
No, and No. Your stock size is 8" of wheel width and +55 offset. There's probably 10mm of clearance in the factory spec from the fenders, more than that gets into fender modification, suspension restrictions, camber adjustments, etc. Your extra 1" of wheel width adds 12.7mm and cutting 33 offset...
  12. Wheel Fitment question

    Wheels, Tires, Brakes, and Suspension
No, they won't fit. Your car is designed to use a +53 offset wheel. You can remove the car's fenders and make some of your own if you want to use those wheels I guess. The steering wheel will no longer work as well if you do though. Oh, and the center bore is wrong so you'd need an adapter for...

What you smell when the wind blows the right way the guy behind you smells the entire time. It's asinine, immature, and completely unnecessary. Health and environment aside.
  14. Input for my Rim/Tire Setup

    Handling Tech
265/35R18 +48 vs 235/45R17 +55 would be a difference of 30mm of tire width, half on either side (30/2 = 15mm), shifted out by 7mm (55-48). So your math is a little off it's 22mm (15+7) closer to the fender than your stock wheel+tire. It's also 8mm (15-7) closer to the strut. I think 265 width at...

That's a lot of carbon monoxide you're talking about putting out for no damn reason. Why do you not want a catalytic converter no your car? There are lots of very free flowing aftermarket exhaust options that offer catalytic converters.
  16. Input for my Rim/Tire Setup

    Handling Tech
18x9.5 +38 is popular because people want the spokes of a wheel to point outward towards the wheel's lip (convex wheel). They also want the wheel's upper lip to be flush with the exterior trim of the car (which generally exposes the bottom of the tire which previous was within the fender well)...
  17. Wheel question

    Newbie Forum
I assume you have a 2005 wrx sedan. If you have a wagon, the rear wheel fenders are tight to the car and there's not much room at all so keep that in mind (or anybody else reading this) 8.5" +44 needs a rear fender roll. Nothing more, but don't expect to do nothing either (assuming 235 tire) 9"...
  18. 2011 WRX Hatch - Keep or look for STI?

    Newbie Forum
I'd recommend the following to people: 1) If you have limited funds but really want a WRX/STi and aren't the mechanical type who could change the clutch on your own car (just as an example), DO NOT buy a WRX/STi. If you're buying a modified WRX or STi and the thought of putting a new engine in...
  19. 2011 WRX Hatch - Keep or look for STI?

    Newbie Forum
The thing I always explain to people is if you get the STi, it depreciates slower than the WRX so the cost difference of ownership IN TOTALITY is much smaller than most people think. I sold an 11 year old STi for $16,000. I can drive my current one for another 9 years and recoup that kind of...
  20. Custom Offset - 9 in wheel on an '11 STi

    Wheels, Tires, Brakes, and Suspension
I'd say for 245 wide the correct offset is +55 (stock offset for the stock width). If you intend to run a wider tire, you might back off a little to +50 or +48 or somesuch but even then going to 265 will require fender modification. Any increase in tire is a nice advantage on the track but it...
