No, its just a better way of controlling boost for tuners. A stage 1 should have no need for one. Most people get them when they have boost creep issues or go above stage 2 power levels.

Yeah, its really easy. If this isn't the source of your problem, it will be eventually, you don't need a new hose though, taking the rubber ends off of your stock hose is all you need to do.
