I love the Redline Heavy Shockproof gear oil. There's a new cocktail out right now that sounds better than the USC. It's Motul 300 with two other additives. I'll have to look up the additives.

If that's all that was wrong, he'd be seeing wastegate pressure. If he's not seeing anything right now, it would have to be wastegate related.

Sounds like a boost solenoid since you're only seeing wastegate pressure. Is it a rapid tapping/clicking from the passenger side? If so, you'll need a new BCS.

5th gear is a strange one when it comes to engine load. I will occassionally overboost in 5th even with the manual boost controller on the external wastegate.
