Truthfully it just sounds like your going in reverse all the time, not really that bad. I do like the idea of a PPG gearset in mine to a future upgrade. I think I could live with the sound.

Yea, but could you live with $4500 Thats the only bad thing. If it was like 3 K not so bad, buts thats a lot of money

I love the complaints about the cost of 4500.. Price out a REAL STI swap and see what you come up to.. With and STI swap your gaing (2) things..

Fisrt.. 6 gears of which first is useless becuase it's so low... Not to mention more shifting in the Quater if that's what your into..

Second.. An extra 80 pounds.. Extra weight is NEVER good...

With the PPG set you are still using a stock housing so what does that mean?? No need to get a different rear end or gear ratio, no need for STI half shafts front hubs and breaks.. But what do you gain?? STRENGHT.. The PPG is also a lot stronger then and STI 6 Speed.. Anyway, keep complaining about the 4500 cost, by the way I spent over 10000 on my PPG setup... That a FULL DOG all the bells and crap not to mention a PPG Front LSD...

Edit: The sound is not as bad as most of you are thinking it is.. Believe me I hardly heard it after a week... The Radio easily drowns it out, even a stock radio setup..

02 WRX.. "It's fun when it runs.. Problem is that it hardly ever does..."

$4500 isn't that bad when you consider that a STi tranny is $6k-7k and then you have to change a bunch of crap over, besides I have watched that video a few times and I am really starting to dig the sound now..

I love the sound too, I almost want my gears to go out, just so I dont have to worry any more.

I think 4500 is fine. But I am interested in the itemized item/cost breakdown. If I, being a relative newbie, were to change the gears myself... what would that include?

And easy on the jokes... . No need to add the cost of a mechanic to make house calls after I mess something up. LOL!

Thanks.

Oh, could I get only the first 3 gears changed to the PPG straight?

Well unless you have taken a tranny apart and up it back together, best to get someone else to do it for you, the Subaru trannies have some very precision measurements that need to be made when reassemblying them...try it if you feel up to it. I think you can customize the gearsets, but I don't think ou can get just the first 3 gears, not sure someone else might take a stab at that one..

They come in pairs...1 and 2 or 3 and 4. So you can just do 1-2 and leave the rest stock...but that would be a mega waste.

And the 2 sets of gears cost 4,500? Anything else I'd need?

Not really...a front diff PPG or STI would be nice, but they add 1k, billet shift forks are also nice and a added sense of comfort. I don't have shift forks, but I do have a STI front diff, and recommend it.

Great, thanks. Going to start syphoning funds from the kids college fund. Shhh, don't tell the wife.

Kidding.

But thanks for the info. Might put the gears on my XMas list.
