Dan Wheldon - IRL tragedy at Las Vegas Speedway

I don't know if any one else watches IRL on here or not. I catch it from time to time. But, I just heard this today and its pretty sad. I don't know why IRL made that race so stupid this year. They offered a 5 million dollar purse to any non-sponsered driver that could win the race and it was a 32 car field with private entrys running beside IRL regulars 4 wide at Las Vegas motor speedway. IRL is not meant to run 4 wide at a nascar track. ::Sigh:: its a shame that more than Wheldon was hurt and taken to a hospital. Unfortunatly Wheldon paid the ultimate price. RIP Dan....RIP. There is even photo by photo break downs of the accident on Speed's website. But, I choose not to include that.

I know it was a 5 million purse for some reason. So, if I'm wrong on my details....correct me. But, seriously randy is right. The family pays for the wrecklessness of the IRL officials. According to ESPN sports center...the drivers were raising concerns before the race started and the concerns were ignored. What a crappy way to come back to a track for the first time since 2000 and to end the IRL season. With the death of the driver that was working on the IRL car of 2012. Plus the race was stopped only 13 laps in after the massive wreck that claimed Wheldon's life. The drivers that heard about Wheldon's death did 5 laps behind a pace car to honor Wheldon. The race got cancelled...

Cancelled the race ?

The race wasn't cancelled when Earnhardt died.... Weaksauce.

I'm not on the same page as you guys. These drivers knew/know what they are getting themselves into. Just sucks that it happened.

Earnhardt didn't have a 15 car pile up associated with it. Where 3 people had to go to the hospital. One (Wheldon) was air lifted and was pronounced dead two hours later. Secondly...LVMS isn't a big enough oval for IRL cars to go 220mph flat out on...while running 4 wide. It was just a very bad idea to begin with.

Earnhardt's wreck didn't look like this.

Not a problem. I'd say the link shows you how ugly it got.
