How's Sunday June 17th sound?

Alice's is in La Honda, CA at the ridge of the Santa Cruz mountains where 84 (Woodside Rd) meets 35 (Skyline Blvd). From Reno you're talking a half-day drive as we're on the San Francisco peninsula.

I vote "no" on Woodside road / Canada / Pescadero for a couple reasons -
1. Canada is closed to motor traffic on Sundays so cyclists can ride freely
2. Those three roads have relatively heavy traffic
3. Heavy traffic means more police...
4. Most important, the roads are relatively straight and uninteresting to drive on compared to the other routes.

If we meet at Alice's, I'd suggest meet early (9am), get the driving out of the way and be back at Alice's in time for lunch. This way we beat the motorcycle crowds and the peninsulans heading out to the coast (and thus slowing us down waaaay too much).

Ah, I spoke to soon...

Woodside road is the same as 84, though once it starts climbing the mountains to skyline people don't usually refer to it as Woodside anymore. I thought you meant the section that takes you through downtown Woodside, which is very cute, but very crowded.

I blanked on Pescadero road because I don't often cycle or drive it myself. However that is a good one and there are lots of cool, less-traversed goat roads along that stretch to check out.

I do standby my Canada veto though. If you google map it, you'll see that it's pretty much a straight shot out from Woodside, following under 280 a bit and then has a few long / fast sweepers around the resevoir ending at 92. It's essentially an out-and-back route with little payoff in my opinion because you either hit the end and turn around (boring, been there / done that), take 92 to the coast (you want to talk about traffic!) or jump on 280 to go back to Woodside road (a bit asinine). Weekends Canada is definitely packed with cyclists, and Sunday is anon-issue since they close it to cars, anyways.

Otherwise hitting Woodside road west to skyline, and traversing Pescadero, Alpine, etc can be a real hoot. SPECTACULAR canyon / ocean views from there too.

I mentioned cycling earlier, is anyone else an avid cyclist and interested in coast rides? I'm building my base miles right now but will begin doing 4 - 5 hour coastals in about 5 weeks...

+1 on the Canada road veto. I think 9:00 am is a reasonable time to meet up before traffic starts getting too bad. I would kinda prefer a little earlier to have more time to uor selves on the road.
Keep checking this post and the calendar for updates and please give your input and ideas!
Thanks
Dean
