wrx vs. sti: redlines

just curious about the wrx's with the 2.5 block and the sti's redline. why is the redline set around 6000rpm for the wrx and 7000rpm for the sti? can the wrx be made to rev to 7000rpm with tuning safely? if not what is different from the wrx's 2.5 to the sti's to allow the sti to rev the extra thousand rpm? thanks for any information guys

Alright, more cross posting from NASIOC,

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ght=difference

Cliff Notes: Heads and cams aren't ment for it and there is no benefit to rev that high on a stock motor/turbo.

from what i gather there is no point to reving past redline even the guys who have done mods say that there is still more power before redline....so why bother?

the only reason why i miss my honda is the sound of vtec at 8000+

Not if you drive it correctly, if you let the RPMs drop then yes, but if you can keep them up (how it's supposed to be driven) that is the true power of the VTEC engine.

VTEC= virtually torqueless engine component. sorry had to slip it in.

like nick said theres really no point to rev that high because you arent making any power up there. maybe with a bigger turbo like a gt35 or so with a built head and bottom end but other than that i say keep the stock redline.
