As far as getting a bigger turbo and the worry of the transmission...you could always do what I did. I tuned my car with my 20G and got great numbers, but they were cut short to help in preservation of the turbo. Only thing is you still need to tune the car again once you get the transmission done and feel safe with more power. So either way, you are probably looking at another trip or two to the tuner regardless.

@newtothegame, did you mean preservation of the trans?? Sorry I think that's what u meant but I was confused. I did not know I needed a tune for the trans as well, haven't looked that far ahead. I want to pay off my pathfinder before the trans swap. I'm having second thoughts about all this now.....which sucks because I have all the parts. E-85 is only available at 2 gas stations in my area (used to be 4), which sucks ballz. Also, I have NO aftermarket gauges currently, just using the AP (no bashing required, I know I should already have them). I know that I need to get some gauges, I've put it off too long. AND now I have read on P&L's website that a "Lambda" reading AFR gauge, and EGT gauge are mandatory for the E-85 tune, which is something that nobody over there mentioned in during my many phone calls. So here I am on 4/5 with no guages and not sure what I want to do, with a install/tune date scheduled for late May. What are your recommendations for a cheap, yet decent guage set (I would prefer factory clock replacement set-up as opposed to pillar), or possibly the Perrin steering wheel mount gauges. The perrin set-up is not offered as a combo with the two gauges I mentioned. I haven't contacted them yet. Maybe I should just wait until I can get the larger turbo and trans and do it all at once. It's just hard for me to look at all these parts every day. I wish I would have planned this out better. I could have.... but work, the economy, and buying a new home turned everything upside down on me. Cutting in on my toy-time/money. Let me know your thoughts.

You are right I meant for the tranny. Im sorry about that. As far as gauges, I run AEM, not too cheap, but not too bad I think. I know alot of people have ran with the Prosport gauges and have not had problems with them (Prosport Gauges - Boost gauges, Wideband Air Fuel Ratio, 80mm tachometers, 80mm Boost gauges,Oil pressure gauges, peak warning Gauges. Wideband Air Fuel Ratio Gauges, 45mm gauges). I have never heard of a tuner making gauges mandatory. When I was tuned I had none, but I do have them now when I built the transmission. I have EGT, A/F, and oil pressure. Can you cancel your tune, or Im taking there is a non-refundable deposit on it?

A gauge that you can't interpret is a useless gauge. That being said, some of them, such as boost should be required. I disagree on the AFR gauge. They are only really useful for tuning purposes, and if you're not doing your own then it may not be the best investment. If you are gonna get gauges I recommend not getting anything other than Greddy, Blitz, Omori, AEM, PLX, Innovate, Zeitronix (don't get their AFR), or Defi. A lot of the cheaper gauges have documented uses with accuracy (a gauge that doesn't read is a pointless gauge) or failure.

Thanks for the replies. I was actually looking into prosport gauges, that is what the perrin setup comes with. But I agree with brfatal, I cannot justify the cost for the AFR gauge....as I am not tuning the car myself. The tuner at P&L can see everything on the laptop anyway as far as I know. I can cancel the install/tune...I have no deposit down. I am waiting for a callback from P&L on the need for the gauges.

This is what I look at every time I walk into my office. Is it wrong to buy parts instead of spending the money on my wife???? I THINK NOT. We gotta have our fun too!!!

Thanks! Yep we had a couple 80 degree days in mid-march here in the Chicagoland area. It went from winter to summer.....now it's 55-60 pretty much every day.
