VF34 with TMIC later

G'day guys,

Am getting a vf34 soon, fuel pump and a tune. Was going to get a bigger TMIC intercooler at the same time but am going to wait a few months. Question being when i do get the bigger TMIC intercooler will i need another tune or will it be fine to just bolt it on??

Cheers

You will need a bigger TMIC if you plan on doing those mods!!!!!!!! At least a STI TMIC.

Yeah i understand i need the TMIC. And from what i have been told by some professionals is that the stock TMIC can handle the vf34 but it will be prone to heat soak if driven hard too long.

My question if get the turbo and tune now, can i bolt the TMIC on at a later date and not have to worry about another ECU tune.

I would wait and do the turbo when you can afford to do it all at once. Putting a bigger turbo on with a stock intercooler is asking for trouble. Your better off running stock turbo with a better tune then putting that on and hoping tune will be ok. I wouldn't risk it ! Good luck!

If you run the car carefully, i.e. like no boost you'll be alright. I seriously wouldn't wait too long for a bigger tmic though.

I get heatsoak bad from my td04 and stock TMIC. At least down here. Wouldn't chance putting it on without it.

And whats the point of running no boost on a wrx. There isn't so save your money and do it right you will be way happier.

Garage
There'd be no point to the turbo upgrade at all with the stock IC on there. Sure you COULD do it, but why bother? The tune you get would probably be comparable to what you would get with the stocker, cept maybe less spool and a little more top end.

It won't just heat soak from long use, it'll heat soak in about 15 seconds. I have heat soak issues from my much larger STi tmic on a measly little 16G just on dyno runs. Your WRX top mount ain't gunna deal real well with the VF34.

cheers fellas.

Am going to do it the right way and get the TMIC, turbo and get it all tuned up within a week if all goes to plan.
Wanted to hold off for short time cos i would of saved some cash getting an intercooler else where but when you live 5 hours from the nearest tuner it is abit hard sometimes.
