is this true...

I dont think this is true but...I heard that once you start upgrading the 04 STi you need to get a new dog-box tranny? Is this true or is the person who told me this BS...Im thinking and hoping BS but I just wanted to ask all of you Rex Tuners on this one. Thanks all.

lol

LOL, how come every car I either own, want or read about have really weak trannies. I was going to get an evo 8 and those have horrible clutch discs.....wrx's have weak trannies till u get a new clutch n flywheel...rx-8's...yuck those are just crappy in general.

The clutch and flywheel in the WRX is fine. It's the gears themselves that are the weak point. Actually, they aren't really weak, but people abuse them. In a 2wd car, if too much power is being made, the tires spin and that relieves stress on the drivetrain. On an AWD car, they don't spin, so all that stress is taken by the drivetrain.

WRX: A new clutch might actually be a little worse for the tranny if it bites harder. If you don't abuse your tranny though it will last a while, it just when you start doing 6 k drops you get the KABOOM!

As for the STi tranny, I haven't heard of ANYBODY blowing one of those yet. God would I love to have an STi....

Well.... upon searching Nasioc I have found three people claiming their trannies are broken in 04 and 05 transmissions. However, all are VERY low mileage which leads me to believe it is manufacture defects.

To answer the question of the original poster... No, the STi Transmission has been touted as "Unbreakable" (If installed and made correctly, obviously). I will bet you will be hard pressed to find a post about an older bug-eyed STi 6 speed Tranny going the way of the Dodo.
