Not always causing a CEL in all cases but the way the stock rail is designed puts #3 last in line to get fuel allowing it to run lean which in turn will raise exhuast temperature. With aftermarket and modding the stock you make it to where you have a feed line to each side of the motor not daisey chaining all the injectors together.

Some people think this mod and idea is BS so research it a bit on your own. I am sure the design has improved since this first came out(2000) but I can see how the flow might be impeded.

Edit:

did some searching and also found that the exhaust maifold for #3 and #4 is to blame for the high EGT not actually being lean. But that doesnt explain why peopl that had a lean issue fixed the issue by ugrading fuel rails.
fuel rail upgrade

it's been 5 days i've been searching for that freakin' adapter part...
i couldn't get it...but i decided to just trick the installation without that part.
just finished last night. sounds got little bit quieter no more rumble sound.
BUT i feel the power!
Now i gotta get it tuned again for proper a/f ratio.

Is #3 then the right place to measure EGT, even assuming the mod has been done?

because of an old(2007) oil cooler adapter has an rediculous angle to it so i needed a oil cooler adapter from 2002~2005 wrx... BUT!!!! it's not in this country!!! my local subaru dealers and parts stores said that i can't get it because it's not available in USA right now....but my car is on the lift and my stock header is off the car and giving me a BIG PAIN!!!!!!I'm so pissed off...i tried more than dozens of junkyards to find this part but...it seems like impossible. what should i do now....
Hey, i am glad you made the header work. But if you still want a real factory oil coller from the v7 cars, i will have one available next weekend, 9th-10th of November (getting a different motor, so one that i'll have will be from jdm sti 2.0 which is the same as usdm 2.0). Let me know on here or PM me.
Thanks.
