Time to start tuning!

I was wondering I could get some help so let me tell you what i am looking for, but first let me tell you a little bit about my self so you can understand a little but.

I am an 18 year old kid in Highschool and have the fastest car at school other then a couple of domestics that i can keep up with a little bit. I drive spiritually, and tend to drive a little fast where i go i cant help it, not reckless but with a lead foot. I love to feel the car accelerate and shift kind of hard.I know ALOT deals with driving habits so ill let you guys decide, when i build it i want to build it right and i definately want to take my time, I LOVE to drive hard even more when its the middle of the night and no one is on the road.

I got my 2007 WRX in early august after doing tons and tons of research I almost got the STI but when I checked on insurance it was more a month then the car payment. I saved up my money and put a down payment on it along with a 4runner trade. I pay for my own stuff and make my own payment every month. i figured i could get a WRX save on insurance and build it up to or surpass the STi. So i am on a High School kids budget. and am mainly wanting to do bolt ons to begin with. please include parts places to get them and justify. i app it.

I hate to do this, but this question gets asked every 5 minutes; search. You'll find tons of information.

The main difference between the wrx and the sti is the transmission. It's a $6k upgrade. That's what makes the sti a much better platform. So unless you spend $3k+ on a stronger tranny, you're not really going to "surpass" the sti.

Look into:
Tactrix cable
Turboback exhaust

With the 06-07 just some EM is a very noticable difference in the car. Start there cause you will need it for a TBE. The 06-07 has an issue with boost spike cause of the larger displacement over the previous years. With your budget and the car, you will have to save up and build slowly. Most of us have to do that regardless.

I have beat and out ran alot of STI's with my 5 speed you just have to know how to drive it and not be a jackass and dump the clutch thats what makes any tranny break. If he gets exhaust, EM and a protune he will be very happy with that set up.

On a low budget the cheapest mods you can do would be a Tactrix cable, you can plug it into your computer, download a stage 1 map and upload it to the car. You will notice a bit of power increase just from that. You can also add an exhaust later on and that will give you some more power especially if you do EM. Read more posts in the engine management section of the forums.

Other cheap (100-200 dollars a mod) noticeable mods that will improve the whole driving experience are:

short shifter with bushings, I’d recommend Kart boy
Rear strut tower brace- Recommend Whiteline
Front and rear sway bars- recommend whiteline
K&N Drop in filter
Gauges, especially a boost gauge- Should be your first mod so you can monitor how your turbo is doing.
Also a scilencer delete if you want to here the turbo spool.

I would suggest upgrading tires and suspension first, especially if you like to "drive hard" while taking corners. Not having to lift the throttle on bends and corners is much better than having gobs of power that can't be sustained once one starts turning, IMO. GL!

sleepr is exactly right, the stock tires on the wrx's are not a performance tire! infact things can get ugly if pushed too hard. replacing them is what should be done first.

You really arent going to need coilovers anytime soon, unless you are just going for the look. Sway bars and endlinks will be sufficient.
