Usdm is a United States version, vs a JDM which is from over the pond.

Usdm (united states domestic market)= your stock version (used)

Do you know where a good place to start looking would be? What would be a good brand? I just want to make sure I get a good one...

Either I am crazy, or I just don't know as much about breaking in an engine as I thought. What the hell is DINO oil? Hopefully you are referring to DINOSAUR oil and are making a reference to standard oil. In that case, yes. If you are referring to something totally different, then in that case....well, I will have to wait until you tell me to tell you...

Make sure you get an EJ255 block. Most of the ones shops advertise are EJ257s, which have different pistons.

This is the one thing I am actually going to order direct from Subaru. Don't want to make mistakes on it.

How many hundreds of thousands of Subaru's are on the road with the same exact pickup?

I'd be more worried about thirty other things before I'd ever worry about my pickup cracking, it's really quite rare.

It's a thing to do while the engine is out. Hence my oil pan, baffle, and pickup. From KillerB!Laugh!

Bastids got me
I have seen more than 1 or 2 on NASIOC...actually here is a thread with the compilation and poll.
oil pickup tube failure thread - Page 13 - NASIOC

Poll results show 226 counts of failure. Several posts even mention that SoA picked up the bill for a long block. I am not instilling it's a ticking time bomb, but with the misfortune I had with my trans I am err on the side of caution. Especially if the motor was out and/or being built.
