straight pipes on 06 wrx?

right now i am being told many things about what to do to my car. one of the ideas i was considering was doing straight pipes on my car. since most of the people on this site know a lot more then i do, i would like some advice in aiding my decision. thanks!

If you get straight pipes, you will be doing so not for any performance reasons whatsoever. You will be doing so because in a desperate cry for attention, you want a car so loud as to disturb the drivers around you and make them notice you.

Sorry to be a dick but there's just no power restriction back there. The only power restriction is the downpipe. The wastegate exhaust stream merges back in at like a 90 degree angle on the stock pipe and it costs you power. The cat back has been shown to be zero restriction with the stock turbo. All it is is quiet. Even if you want something a little louder, there are plenty of aftermarket exhausts with mufflers. If you don't want a muffler for other reasons, well, see my last post.

If you want performance gains, you just need a downpipe.

Well said mosc.
I'm not even sure if straight pipes would sound good anymore either... It would probably sound a little ricey..... If you want sound out of it, just get a cat-back exhaust, if you want more than sound also, get a downpipe and then maybe just a muffler for more sound.

You should really search around a bit. Like you openly admittd, there are some that know so much about these cars. Check this out if you dont know much about the exhaust system of the car:CobbTuning.com - Exhaust Design

Enjoy, hope you learn something.

sfelix818 is more helpful than not
If you do a catless downpipe our (06-07) cars without a tune or some kind of EM get boost creep = no good. I would recommend getting some kind of EM first for a great power mod, then your able to get your mods and just reflash the ecu as you go along.
