STI governor

Hello, I'm new to the WRX world. I'm buying an STI and want to know if there is a way to defeat the governor.

Where are the governors and what do they govern? Just speed and rev, right?

wrx governor

I don't know much about it. I know they limit the speed to 131 and it can do 146+.

On some cars if you take out the fuse for the tach/speedo it will disarm the governor, but BE CAREFUL. For one thing, you don't know how fast you are going and another you don't know what your RPMs are so you could fulk something up bad. I wouldn't do it personally but it is a possibility. If there is a better way, I would like to know too.

chiping sti

I think that most of the limits come from the firmware in the one of the onboard computers. I was hoping that someone makes a module to either re-program the bios or that someone makes an aftermarket chip. I know that in a bunch of new cars, for example the BMWs, you can just re-program the bios, sort of like downloading a new program into the car. The alternative, replacing the chip, is similiar. I haven't looked into chips in a while, but you used to have to bring your car someplace to have them put the new chip in.

eventually there will be an ecu upgrade or ecu reflash which will take it out the governed speed .
