SPT Turbo Heat Shield
1 Attachment(s)
Hey Guys I was wondering if anyone has purchased the SPT Turbo Heat Shield?? I know it helps keep the temp from the turbo to the IC low. And, if you have how easy was it to install? It sits left of the IC, right? I'm thinking about getting it. Thanks for any info!

I didnt buy the SPT heat hsield, but I do have the cobb heat shield, and it looks like their installed the same way. It was easy. You just use the OEM heat shield bolts.

Getting the stocky out is easy, so the install of the SPT will be easy as well. Are you going for bling factor ? If not, a slightly better option may be to simply keep the stock heat shield which is very functional and add a snail blanket.

I bought one. Yeah, they're overpriced but I'm lazy

The SPT shield fits better than the COBB one does. Either way, they are super easy to install. Just make sure you don't skimp on the bolts, a couple of them are a bit tough to get to, because that sucker will rattle your ears off if you leave any of the bolts out.

The install for an SPT turbo heat shield is a piece of cake...only 1 bolt to deal vibrations either.

!Thumbs Up

If anyone has measurements, or can point me in the direction of them could you please PM the site or the measurements for both the turbo and the air-intake heat shields? I work with metal and parts fabrication all the time for helicopters. Im going to Iraq and would like to start making a few of these for myself and others local to me. All help is greatly appreciate thanks.

Installing the SPT Turbo Heat shield is a piece of cake. I actually installed the SPT turbo heat shield and the SPT radiator shroud in my 07 WRX LTD in like 15 mins. Like stated before all you have to do is remove the intercooler's one mounting bolt and then lift up slightly on the intercooler to slide the heat shield into place. Then just feed the bolt through the hole on top of the heat shield tighten it down and voila you are done. By the way, peolpe are stating that you have to remove your OEM turbo heat shield. That is not the case with the SPT one. It actually bolts onto the intercooler mounting bracket which I stated before and it basically sits maybe 3/4 of an inch or more overtop of the OEM heat shield. Thus now you have two heat shield and seeing as the SPT one is made of stainless steel it does a good job at reducing the heat put of by the turbo and the OEM heat shield, thus resulting in a lot less heat to the intercooler.

Hey Guys does anyone know if the SPT Turbo heat shield fits over the Invidia V4 DP? or does the COBB fit better? Thanks!

it will fit, the spt one mount to the IC bracket and the cobb mounts to the stock heat shield bracket on the DP, here is a picture of the one that I made out of 1/8 inch 6061 aluminum, it mounts like the SPT one

I have a question about these. It seems like some of you may have put the SPT heat shield on your 02-05 WRX's.

The Subaru parts website said they only fit 04-07 STI's and 06-07 WRX's. Can anyone verify this?

P.S. Cobb no longer sells their heat shield. Does anyone know why this is?

blk05WRX 06-17-2009 11:57 AM

I found out that you can use the SPT heat shield on 02-05 WRX's. You just have to get a new bolt that looks like the intercooler bolt and attach the shield to the empty hole on the intercooler mounting bracket.

Bolt Specifications:
M10x1.25 with a 12mm head and a shoulder.

Also, I was told by Cobb that they stopped making the heat shield b/c of the economic downturn. So I bought the SPT.

man show 06-17-2009 09:21 PM

Really? They can't cut and bend a piece of metal and sell it for 50 bucks? I would think that would help them out. I can't imagine they're taking a loss on that product. I thought people were buying it. Stupid economy.

blk05WRX 06-18-2009 09:14 AM

My thoughts exactly. If you've already got the machines to make it, why not keep making it.
