he did that because auto's are faster than a manual on a drag strip.... look at any really drag car....
It's probably also because he was breaking axles. An automatic allows him to use a line-lock at the lights and pre-load the drivetrain. That way when he launches, everything has some stress against it so the shock of launching isn't so sudden. That's what EasyStreetMotorsports did with their 800+ HP 9 sec STi. They were running 9.7's with regular street tires but when they tried to use drag radials, they broke 2 axles (one front, one rear) so they went to using the auto.

lol man no look at any real drag car and you will find an automatic transmation. it is not posable to out shift one on a drag strip. the reason that R/T are faster with a auto is for the reason you stated. as for broken axles there are after maket ones out there and you can have them made so you wont brake them. we run 10" sliks on are street stocks and we have to run yucon axles on them for safty reasons.
I want one but I don't know if I want one, ya know? I'd need exact costs and a wile to convince the mrs
but yeah, I'm definately a prospective customer for that kit. I'd want a smaller twin scroll though and I have an EJ20... not sure how different that would make things...

I think the kit runs ~2500 with the pipes and turbo (depending which turbo you want)...each kit will be custom for each car...we are still getting kit put together to see what final costs are.... I do not want to post for sure numbers till I have everything

that turbo looks bad ass. how exactly does a "twin scroll "work?
Instead of the turbo having one exhaust inlet, it has two. So the 4 runners on the headers merge into 2 instead of just one.
Notice how the uppipe is actually 2 pipes.
It spools a lot faster...the turbo I got (the S256) is around the same size as the GT35 but will hit full boost at ~3500..with is when the GT35 starts to spool
