Yeah, one of the reasons I stayed with GSC S1 Cams. I might even go R30 or R35 if I can stop paying for stuff like the last motor build and a wedding in the near future. Gah!! But, still GSC S1s have a awesome low end pull in 1st gear in a 6 spd manual.

I actually spoke with Dave over at South Side Performance in Houston, not engine logics about the entire build(great guys) and he said word for word that the gsc stage 2 cams are not going to effect my low end by a crazy amount, yes i will lose some low end but its not like im gona have to wait a forever for my turbo to spool, plus im doing all this now so that i dont have to do it later on when i go bigger turbo. im only going to stick with this setup for a year or 2 tops. who cares if a lose a bit of low end. Also if those BC springs and retainers go to hell i got 90 days to bring it back to be fixed under warranty. If you think im an idiot whatever. Anyways, I see someone has their hand up...

What rpm are you planning on spinning this motor to?

well with the upgraded valve train and cams the red line will be pushed to around 8,000. but i dont plan on pushing it all the way to that

Do you know what your static compression ratio will be?

they are doing a custom compression ratio with the set up.

You going higher or lower? I'd highly suggest going lower unless your wanting to run 100+oct all the time. Just my $.02, but I know nothing so take it as you will.

You talking about having pre-det if the higher octane isn't run. I'm curious. @psinuse

Makes sense as you have been spinning your 2.34 to 8900. Thanks.

There's more to it than that. My big question to your builder would be finding out what your real compression is going to be. I have seen Manley pistons that say 8.5:1, but once you calculated everything out wound up being well over 9:1.

8,000 is very high for a 2.5L. What oiling upgrades are you doing? Balancing and blue printing?

That's what i was getting at about what rpm he was going to run. Based on my own experince if you use the 11mm pump he'd be okay. It just says stock oil oump, so for a 04 the newer 11mm pump supercedes the prior 10mm.

I'd be telling him to get a 12mm JDM or Cosworth pump. That's what size Subaru motors designed to rev that high use. I'm using an 11 mm but I'm happy with 7,500 (any higher and I'm not satisfied that my setup would be ideal). My tuner only took me to 7,250.
