downpipe exhaust wrap and noise

would an exhaust wrap on the downpipe reduce the sound levels of the exhaust? i know about the heat retention and keeping heat out of the engine bay benefits but wondering if there are any sound reduction benefits?

thanks

asking cause gonna buy a cobb catted downpipe but would like to keep sound down as much as possible

Sound as in ?

The spool or the rumble ?

It won't do either

It won't be much louder. The aftermarket catback mated up to the DP is the noisemaker.

Or if you're talking about sound through the piping, sure it will help, but the cobb is already a bit more on the quiet side due to the cast bellmouth.

If anything do it just to keep more heat out of the engine bay.

no, exhaust wrap doesn't do anything for noise reduction

thanks guys..

i'm leaning more on not getting the wrap now from your infos above as i live in generally cool weather and free flowing traffic. n generally welcome more heat in winters.
i'll save a few bucks n save time not to wrap.

thanks

I must disagree. I am a big advocate of controlling underhood temps, and think wrapping the DP is very worthwhile, ni matter what climate you live in. I wrap mine to just past the bend (about 2/3) and yes there is a slight, but noticeable difference in the sound, however I run a non-cast DP, which is probably louder than the cast bellmouth style.
