buying a wrx

Im planning to buy a wrx in april or may and not sure what year to go with. I know the 02-03 had problems with the trannys..and the 04-05 have been my favorite body style but i am starting to like how the 06 look as well. As far as mods go which year is better to mod? Being that i am only 18 it will be a wrx not an sti, but thats the least of my worries..Thanks for the help!

Just note that yes 02-early04 has the "glass trannys." 02-05 have a 2.0L engine. 06+ has the larger 2.5L engine (aka more room for power upgrade). Just see whats in your price range and certainly go for a stock wrx, way better than a modded one as you can be almost sure it has less wear and tear. FYI wrx trannys in general are rather weak compared to other cars including the STi. That's about the only negative I can think of (Well maybe lack of luxury, but that's not what you buy this car for). Their AWD system is one of the best I've ever used. Overall its a phenomenal car.

well, some people say that very few 03s got the newer gears so that it's really and 02-03 vs 04-07 difference but the point is all 04s have the same tranny.
