boost question...again

I know there have been a lot of boost quesions lately, so I apologize for this, but I use opensource tuning, and I am running an xpt stage two map on my 06 rex, and I peak at around 18.5-19 pounds....is that ok...I mena, I have been running it for a while now, with absolutely zero probalems, and the car runs great! but I read some of the other posts of people saying they have a tune like on an 03 or something, and they are shooting for around 16.5 pounds? is there a difference between the ej20 and my engine that i am not realizing here?

Well, you do have a 2.5L as opposed to the 03 WRX. So your engine is a EJ25. Also, you should be fine with that amount of boost. I might be a little off but, I think the stock internals can handle up to 20 or 21lbs of boost.

i read some where on this forum that the stock turbo on the 06's should only boost up to about 17 to 18psi, anything more and the life of the turbo is shorten considerably...i have mine up to 17 pounds and do not want to boost any more than that....i want my turbo to last at least 100k but we will see, i am a long ways from that.

Is it possible that your guage is just a little off? 19 psi seems a little high to me

i would lower it to 17.5-18 psi that is about all the turbo can take consistantly safely. the xpt maps are designed to run 17-18 psi

This is kind of off subject, but I actually hit 14 PSI +/- .2PSI on a Cobb stage 1 map. Thats what the AP and my boost gauge read.

But like stated about I wouldnt want to run over 18PSI on the stock turbo.

Do you mean you hit a spike of 18.5-19 and it settles or that is what boost your targeting?Thats a little high if you don't have an upgraded intercooler. What boost do you target around redline? The 2.0L's usually target lower because of fueling(smaller injectors) so 16psi at 70*F uses alot less fuel than 16psi at 20*F.Its a safe boost # depending on how you tune and your AFRs.I run 20psi up to 5500rpm and taper to 15-14.5 by redline with a 11.2:1 AFR.I run an upgraded TMIC and bumped up fuel pressure. The stock 02-05 I.C.'s are bigger than the 06-07's.Bigger TMIC would be my next upgraded if you haven't yet.
