Question Blow off valve, exhaust sparks??

I have a 2006 WRX with a TurboXS RFL Blowoff valve, rest of car is stock. Leaving work the engine was cold and was shifting out of 1st gear around 3500k RPM's I was told by a buddy behind me it had sparks coming out of the stock exhaust muffler. And a little worse when i shifted from 2nd. Is this normal with having a blowoff valve and the car being untuned, and will this do any bad long term damage to anything?

Yes, its' normal. You're running ass rich which is then giving you excessive gas in your exhaust stream which is then igniting. It's WONDERFUL for your catalytic converters, let me tell you... Of course I'm being sarcastic. Take that POS blow off valve off the car already...

LOL Z....Just be glad this isn't nasioc. The Flaming would've errupted at this point. In short...either tune for it, go 50/50 atmospheric, or take it off the BOV.

50/50 atmospheric doesn't help anything. You just get the worst of both worlds. If you want that BOV sound, remove the intake silencer.

If you don't want it to be a TOTAL waste of money, you could try to 100% recirculate the BOV back into the intake.... ( is this possible with a TMIC???)

It is a clear indication that you are running rich. Is running rich harmful to your motor? Yes, although it's far better than running lean.

I don't think it would ignite pre-turbo but if it did, that would be horrible for the turbo.

You can't really. How are you going to tune for it if you can't measure the amount of air being lost?

Yeah, they come like that without any other choice. Otherwise people would just un recirculate the BPV. If he wants to keep the BOV instead of selling it, he could just recirculate it just so it's like stock, yes.

I guess I wasn't thinking. It would be impossible to tune for. But, I've heard people say it was possible to tune for it. Guess, I shouldn't listen and accept everything I hear. Oh, well...

I agree that it is impossible to tune for though can't the overall effect be minimized by relocating the MAF to the throttle body so the EM can at least see the real AF ratio. All in all your def much better off recirculating.
