Best headers for reasonable cost??

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a good quality header for 06 wrx at a good cost. Also is an uppipe really needed since it is already catless??? Is Gruppe-S any good? Thanks for any input?

If you have a stock uppipe, it is not catless (unless there's something on the '06 I don't know about). Once you start playing with boost, you don't want to be sucking in cat parts into your turbo.

the 06 does NOT have a cat in the up pipe but it is still a small nrrow pipe and
some what restirctive... would still recommend an after market up pipe for
increased flow... like perrin or cobb A+

it's not small or narrow and it's not a restriction. It's 2.25" which is plenty wide for a little 4 cylinder. The pipe's less than a foot long anyway. Leave your up pipe alone.

The uppipes on the 06-07s have been beaten to death on here. They are fine for a good deal of power. Save the money and put it somewhere else.

From what I have heard the stock headers are really good. Unless you are puttin out 500+hp

VanillaJuice 11-26-2007 10:42 PM

hit up crucial racing...they do a core exchange for PnP and coated headers...$255 i think...

wrxman420 11-26-2007 11:59 PM

wow, No word on the gruppe-s headers yet. I was looking at them too.

Bandit 11-28-2007 07:23 PM

thanks for all of the ideas. I'll look into some of the things mentioned above. I know I probably don't need headers, but for the 10 or so horsepower gain plus they just add to that nice "boxer" sound, the money is worth it.

Did they increase the diameter for the 2.5L or something? I've seen uppipes from 02's and 04's, and they are definitely NOT 2.25". Probably not even 2".

mosc 11-29-2007 02:30 PM

? They've always been 2.25" I thought

2.25" is plenty. That 800whp STi that we had vids of ran... not suprisingly, a 2.25" uppipe

WReXd 11-30-2007 05:14 AM

I agree, 2.25" is plenty. It doesn't really matter though, cause the stock uppipe isn't that big. I don't really have any proof apart from my own experience, but if you check out turboxs, perrin, crucial, autospeed, and megan racing, you'll notice a trend. They all make uppipes with a diameter of 2" or LESS. Now why would they make smaller-than-stock uppipes?

mosc 11-30-2007 04:34 PM

I have been wrong before ;)

robert.lshoc 11-30-2007 10:02 PM

my boy put on headers on his 07 STI and every other month he is replacing burnt gaskets that leak. He gave up and has the stockers back on.
