You dont NEED a FMIC for a 20G. You can, but Im running a TMIC on my 20G and its not a limiting factor on my car (yet).

Top mounts are more prone to heat soak and limited by size.

That said, ill probably never use a front mount because I like my functional scoop

Roman777 12-15-2011 07:30 PM

OKAY how about is there any other turbos thats spool up as fast as a 20g but better top end?? and how about the tranny upgade what gears is there cheaper then ppgs?

psinuse 12-15-2011 07:40 PM

Fast spooling and 20g do not go hand in hand.

cwinterbower 12-15-2011 07:46 PM

^^nor does better top end without planning on a lot more money. I'd say reverse that question would make more sense. Top end of a 20g with quicker spool if your putting it on a stock motor.

Roman777 12-15-2011 08:40 PM

ya a similer top end as a 20g but faster spool up. everbody says go with the 18g but i feel its not gone be inof top end for me. i wana kill chiped bmw. and american crap cars. my bother was racing an m3 on highway his g37 stoped going at around 141. and the m3 was going and going.

psinuse 12-16-2011 05:15 AM

Well the 18g will make boost all the way passed the abilities of the stock motor and has the spool of an 16g somewhat, slightly slower. really depends on tune and the other modifications you put on the car...

When considering what turbo to get you need to factor a couple other things. There are a lot of configurations for the turbos as well. The size of the cold side and the hot side housings will change the speed of the spool up and the top end. For instance you have the TD05 and TD06 20g's which are both available with 7cm and 8cm hotsides.

Here's a good read: Turbo FAQ: Read if you are thinking of upgrading! - NASIOC

Good pic from that FAQ:

A rotated 30R will spool faster than a 20G. I didn't hit my target 19 psi till 4,300 RPM with my 20G.

pzr2874 12-16-2011 11:37 AM

Was that PnPnC and all the goodies Justin?

Heads and throttlebody only. Without the 3-port BCS or EWG it would have spooled even slower.

I hit target boost on my 20g at 4000 and it's a TD06 turbine housing. Granted I am using a GMBCS and a few other things that play into that, but my compression is way lower than yours is also....

brfatal 12-17-2011 01:38 AM

7 or 8 cm housing?

I also have a FMIC.
