06 wrx turbo upgrade

i have a 06 wrx and was looking at buying a 16g turbo for it. I am not very knowlegdable about turbos, upgrades, ect. would i be able to just directly bolt the turbo on with no futher upgrades? I've heard something about upgrading the water and oil lines but thats all.

any answers/advice would be very helpful! thanks

upgrading the turbo requires (to be effective anyway):
fuel injectors
fuel pump
larger intercooler
new gaskets
turbo back exhaust with a bellmouth downpipe
a custom tune

You might also consider:
decent tires
driving lessons

EDIT: You CAN just slap the turbo on there provided you tune for it. This would be rather stupid though. The stock intercooler on the 06-07 WRX is the smallest of any year WRX. There's gains to be had replacing it on your STOCK turbo, not much point in going to something bigger with it still in there. Fuel system is similar. As always, a custom tune for any non-stock condition is a good requirement.

How much would this setup run me? Excluding the turbo because I already bought one

Gotta pay to play.... I'd say 2250 minimum if you go for less expensive exhaust parts. More like 2700 +.

fuel injectors- 3-400
fuel pump- 100
larger intercooler- 750
new gaskets- 75 (turbo to DP, UP, maybe one or two more)
turbo back exhaust with a bellmouth downpipe- 7-1500
a custom tune- 350

What size injectors would a 16-18g turbo require?

mosc 01-05-2010 03:25 PM

You need to be more specific than that.

RcrsWetDream 01-05-2010 03:52 PM

Turbo size isn't as important as what hp you're aiming for.

Deatschwerks

That's a good tool, just use CRANK hp and a BSFC of .6 to be safe. Keep max duty cycle around .85

debo24 01-05-2010 04:08 PM

I'm aiming for 325-350 at the crank. So that calculators saying 650cc injectors should do the trick. A 16g turbo can produce those numbers correct?

RcrsWetDream 01-05-2010 04:19 PM

I've heard they can go as high as 360, even 380 bhp/crank hp with supporting mods. Don't quote me though.

What do you think about this kit? I know its a cheap kit but i dont see why it wouldnt work

mosc 01-05-2010 08:17 PM

I think the turbo is a Chinese piece of crap and the intercooler is so small you might as well not bother.

debo24 01-05-2010 08:25 PM

Thank you for your input mosc. I'm not trying to be annoying with my lack of knowledge on this upgrade. I know this upgrade won't be cheap but I'm not trying to spend top dollar either. What is a decent 16g turbo at a resonable price?

newtothegame 01-05-2010 10:55 PM

Check out Blouchturbo.com. Might not be cheap, but you are getting probably one of the best turbos out there. You really cant get cheap and reliable, one or the other unfortunately.

Get a used VF39 or VF43 off of an 04-07 STi. Buy a cheap but decently sized TMIC. You can get used ones in the $150 that are pretty big. Buy a fuel pump. Use your stock injectors. You can use an off the shelf map for this. Probably do the whole thing for <$500 if you're careful.

I went on blouchs website and saw they upgrade the stock td04 turbo and put a bigger compressor and thrust bearing. Making it capable of 310hp would I need supporting mods if I just upgraded the stock turbo? And a tune?
