I have been reading up on turbos as well since I am in the same boat. While the 18g/20g sound mighty tempting I love the spool of the TD04 on the street from a dead stop. I think the route I will take is the twin scroll set up. May try to go with the 16g from the Evo IX or a small 16g.

The evo3 16g will get you pretty close to the td04

Get it ported

If I went the Evo3 16g route, would most likely do PnP and EWG. For the twin scroll set ups would most likely do JDM VF turbo or the Evo IX 16g and would have to change up my exhaust (DP and Up pipe) to accommodate it.

Up to you but I don't see the point, the Evo3 is more efficient and cheaper to put in.

Guess if you're comfy doing it (which you prob are since you have an Evolution already) Maybe it's easier for you.

True, the Evo3 has been added to my list though. I was looking right into the 18G/20G since seeing the threads on NABISCO with the typical "20G on the 2.5L or you are a putz..." type BS.

Find someone that has a 20G and either drive the car, or at least ride in it. I dont know why people think the 20G hits so high in the RPM or spools slow at all. There are options out there to also aid it, let alone a good tune to help out spool characteristics. But its all personal preference. Good luck in your decision.

Sandra, look at getting a 1.5 XT-R from Blouch. It spools quick and will make more hp.

LOL @ 480hp.A little too aggressive for what I am looking for, but thanks for the recommendation. Maybe a good option for the OP's goals though.

Thats crank hp. Blouch likes to rate everything for optimal crank hp numbers. It took a lot of work to get 350 whp out of my old 2.5 XT-R. But, the turbo had a quicker spool than my current turbo.

Didn't think there would be over 100hp diff. between crank and wheel hp. I am looking to maybe crack 300-325awhp. That's why I was looking at the smaller guys (VF, small 16g, TD04-19t, etc.). I will start my own thread once I am more serious not to clutter the OP's thread.

A TD04 19t will not crack 300whp...I doubt most of those turbos you listed would without fudging the numbers a bit.. The most I have seen out of that 19t is around 270-275 and that was pushing it well beyond it's comfort zone...
