What the heck does an Oil Catch Can do?

I've seen a dozen cars with an oil catch can as a modification and i'm sitting here wondering, What the heck does an Oil Catch Can do? I heard it helps "clean" or "purify" the oil? I dunno, anyone know anything about them and can chime in on the subject?

The original version of Simple Green will discolor aluminium.Find something that is not as acidic or aluminium safe.

Yes it was, thanks for the link manshow. I should make some for cheap and sell them to ricers @ the local "hang-out" spots. Seriously though, I'll probably attempt one someday.
