Turbo SSHHHH instead of whistle

This is not on a Subaru but I know that many of you have alot of turbo knoledge. My wifes A4 has been hissing of shushing instead of wistleing. Is this due to the cold weather or is there a problem?

Well, its not from the cold weather, thats for sure. The shhh could be a loos air bypass valve or possibly and exhaust leak. Those two would be my best guess.

I also own an 02 passat turbo (same motor as your A4) the bypass valves do have a problem with leaking, mine just turned 60k, as luck would have it, the turbo crapped the bed, making a loud tapping sound when boosting, also due for a t-belt, plug change, clutch is going, and front brakes are low. WEE have I got a fun filled time ahead of me!!!
