Tail light paint?

I've checked around the internet everywhere and i can't find any help.

so maybe you guys can help! yay!

i want to paint my tail lightsand remove the red plastic part and just put in red bulbs.

i can't get in there though.

baking is a no no.

i guess dremel is the only way in. so here are my questions

1. can i get away with not cutting in between the clear and the black parts and just cut on the back? that way the clear parts and the edges dont get muffed up.

2. whats the smallest cut i can get away with and still pull everything out?

3. what do i use to seal it back up with? will jb weld hold on that type of plastic? i have stuff for windows and what not but it dries into rubbery stuff. and i dont think that will hold.

4. can i use led lights? or should i just find some red 7443's?

can anyone help me or am i

Awesome, glad I could help. Are you actually going to go through with that method that I posted above? Im just wondering, I want to paint my headlights at least, and probably my new rims Im getting, not sure about my tails though. Good luck with it though.

i hope to. i was going to paint my heads and tails together. i tried the oven baking method for the tails. epic failure.

wound up warping the back part and they barely fit on where i could drive to town.

i finally tracked down a new one on the net. but when i got it there was a grey fade on it instead of chrome. so i have to do something to make them match.

so i'm working on the warped one right now. it's turning out pretty good so far. i made a few mistakes but i have a little extra room to play with. it's definately interesting.

i also got black and silver wheels. and the car is light silver. so everything's got a nice little color scheme to it.

Sorry to hear about the mishap with the one tail light. I have an 07 that is the darker silver/grey color. I kind of want that light/drak scheme going on. Im really debating on painting my new rims when they come here, cause they are silver, but I think I want them to be dark like the Rotas that Im running. Just be sure to post up some pics, and best of luck wtih it.

Another option is Lamin-X film. You can get several different shades of black or red for the tail lights. Just another option for you to think about.

Ah good call John. I completely forgot about that stuff. Im still looking for an 06 to trade tails with honestly.

i've seen that stuff before but i'm not sure how those would look against a silver car. either way the clear covers would be nice for UV and small rock protection.

i didn't glue it together yet just incase i wanted to change something. i also left pinholes in the tape in a couple of places.

but i learned alot.

i've been reading a little and i found out that people have got tickets for not having their lights red or what not. even for having them tinted. anyone had this happen?

i seem to remember, howerever, that the wagon tails are nothing but chrom with a little red marker on the side. almost completely invisible from the back.

something like this....

so i was thinking, maybe i could just go from this.....

to this....

i'm trying to keep the big red plastic part out. if at all possible...

feedback please?

Honestly I would leave it out. I believe you should be alrite. But Im sure that also revolves around local law also. Btw, the lights look good.

Thats a tough call. If I were doing it I would risk leaving it out, but thats just me. I honestly think it looks better without the red in it.

yeah, it looks a lot cleaner and less like something you'd see for sale on ebay.

i've got the wing light and window light too, those are both red. so i should have a good loophole there.

look at the lexus rx too. copmletely clear tail with two small red lights on the corner.

now maybe the cops will understand that......

either way i hope to get started soon.
