Stock Stereo Swap

Ok, I did my best to find this question in the forums with no success. I have an 04' WRX with the stock 6-disc changer that won't play cds. It's been like this since I bought the car a few months back. I can still listen to the FM tuner and play tapes but the cd changer won't allow me to put the discs in to play them. I'd like to keep a "clean" "close-to-stock" looking appearance in my car. My question is, will stock units from all years work in other models or does it have different wiring in the different generations? I'd like to put in a newer stereo with the aux input. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

from my experience they all work...in my old 03 daily I had the head unit out of an 06 STi and it worked fine...I actually might know somebody selling one if your interested

will work fine my wrx is a 04wrx and before i put my kenwood touch screen in it had a sti radio aswell
