STI Wing

How easy is it to install the STI wing on a 2005 WRX?

Alot of people say that you have to drill more holes in the trunk! But to me it looks like all I have to do is remove the four bolts holding my low wing on then put on the STI wing then put the four bolts back in! I mean it looks simple

You can just use the 4 bolts. If you wanted to you could drill more holes and use the extras.

It would be a lot easier to find someone to trade with. Go to NASIOC and see if anyone wants to trade you trunks. If you do trade trunks, don't forget to get the springs too!

Hey "zmanoside" I might be interested in a trade. I have a PSM wingless trunk lid off a WRX that came on my 2004 STi when I purchased it used. And I am thinking about putting the original STi wing back on it. It is excellent shape no scratches or dings. PM me if you are interested?

The STi wing causes a huge blind spot. Especially on the freeway looking out for cops!

Does it really block your view that bad? I have only driven WRX's and my STi which came wingless. IMHO I think it looks better, but also that was how the engineers from Subaru intended it. It is functional right? How much does it weigh? Sorry for all the questions I am a newb in the Subaru world, at least.

It's totally non-functional and sits squarely in the middle of your rear glass (it's not that thin either). It's there because it was there on the JDM model. It was on the JDM model because it allowed them to put it on their rally car. The one on their rally car WAS functional, but it's nothing like the one we get. Also, no spoiler is functional at reasonable speeds. They all create downforce by making drag. Drag sucks and downforce benefits require breaking the speed limits. Also the thing is friggin heavy.

It's a rear view blocking heavy ass drag making useless park bench. But hey, some people think it looks cool so it's got that going for it.

I dunno mr. mosc. I read in an article somewhere on NASIOC that the downforce = approx 60lbs @ 100 mph. there was a test done by apexi in Japan with 2 bone stock STi's, one with the park bench on and the other without, the one with the wing had higher speeds possible in corners which equaled out to faster lap times. I'm not gonna go searching for the article, well cause I just dont want to I dont know how reliable the source was, just wanted to put it out there....this is funny cause I just got off the phone 2 seconds ago to see how much it would cost to fill holes and paint the trunk...I want my wing GONE and cant seem to find anyone local that wants to trade. It heavily blocks your view and it attracts major attention that I dont want.

i was thinking the same thing. everything on the sti is functional. even that rear diffuser. most of us wont notice it but it does serve a purpose, you will get downforce on high speeds. so to say that it's totally non-functional is false.

and i just look on my sideview mirrors and can see the complete car behind me. it helps block off the bright headlights at night. even though the auto dimmer helps.

rollin on 17's now and they're dirty
