STi rev setting

Hey guys. I was looking through the owners manual and I discovered this REV setting for the STi. Well the manual says you can set the rev limiter from 2-7500 rpm. Well, for some reason my display wont let me set it past 7000 rpm, I'm just wondering if this is a typo in the manual or what???

mind posting the answer so if anybody has the same question they can search through and find it?

BTW, after a long conversation with my tuner, the rev limiter on my STi is now set to 7000rpms. He advises against any higher and the power band of my car (most STi's) is well out of that range anyway. The 2.5L works better shifting at around 6000 than it does at 7000. You'll go faster and be easier on your engine.

Ya, I was just getting confused/reading the manual wrong basically. The setting adjustment is for the shift light not the engine rpm cuttoff. After several responses, people also reccomended setting the shift light at 6k rpm, so I went with that.

Cheers, Zach

How do you set the shift light anyway? I've been meaning to do that...

Turn the key to right before the car starts (the gauges will illuminate), dont start the car.
turn the rev thingy once and you will hear a beep. Look to where it normally shows outside temp and it will give you a number, i.e. 60, 45, (meaning 6,000 rpm, 4,500 rpm respectivley) use the rev knobby thingy on the left and turn it to the right or the left to set the light (your rpm gauge will actually follow the number you are setting)..after 3 seconds or so of not touching it, it will set. Then it will go to the audible shift beep, and you have a choice of on or -- (off). I'm pretty sure this (the audible shift beep) was a "new" feature on the 05 STi's though mosc.

great... I'll have to dig through the manual. Fortunately, I think the WRX and WRX STi manual in 04 were exactly the same and I kept my WRX's manual so hopefully it covers it.

Strange i set mine to almost 7k. I don't get a beep. Just the flashing little light on the dash.

AFTER you set the rpm and you let it set it will go to the beep setting which will show -- or off and on. Use the rev knob and turn it to the right or left to turn it off or on.

I tried ####ing around with it and didn't get very far. I hit the trip button and 00 comes up. Then I turn the rev nobby and nothing happens. Thoughts?

You dont have to hit the trip button at all. The instructions says to have the car key in the lock position, which is false, it also says you have to press the trip button, which is also false. Turn the key to the on position, dont start the car, just turn the rev knob and you should hear a beep and be able to set it.

It didn't at least set your rev limit w/o a beep? Because I thought that zmanoside said you could still set the rev limit. Just no beep, because the 04s didn't have the beep option. After you set the limit. I just turned the knob right again....i believe and it beeped. turning on the beep option when i hit the rev limit.
