Smoked Tails for WRX Sedan?
Wondering if anyone knows about smoked tail lights for the Sedan. (02-03 body style). I saw a silver WRX on the highway today and he had them. I didn't get a chance to ask him where they came from. I notice the Wagon seems to have smoked tails. Does anyone know if they are the same size/fit as the Sedan and we could take the wagon Tails and put them on a sedan? Or does anyone know where to find them? Any ideas/help would be appreciated.

I dunno man... I have a silver WRX wagon and they don't seem to be smoked. But you could buy some smoked (if I may) Altezzas. I was thinking of buying some myself, but am still thinking...

Yea I've seen the Altezza lights. I don't think they do the car justice. I really should have stopped the guy on the highway and asked him where he got them. I may never know!

What do you mean by that?

WizzD 01-11-2003 08:24 AM

When I say they don't do the car justice I mean that they just aren't the lights I think should be on a WRX. They look too much like all the other lights you see on Honda Civics and all those cars. The cars I see with Altezzas aren't in the same class. To put those on my car I would feel I am lowering my cars standards. I've never been an Altezza fan.

Smoked tails. On my last car I had smoked tails. A local body-mods shop did all kinds of cool stuff to my car, and smoked tails was one of them.

You basically take the car in, drop off the tails (or the car), and they will smoke them. That will be one of the first mods I have done after I pick up my car this weekend! It really looks great!

Just be sure not to get them TOO dark. The local cops busted a couple guys that had them done because they were too dark.

Thanks but I don't want anyone to smoke them for me, I want to find real OEM smoked tails. I have seen some people use that spray tint and other films and it doesn't last long. If someone rubs against it or had it been out like my WRX just was for the Blizzard of 2003, that stuff would have smudged off. I can't have that. Want the real smoked tails themselves.

Thanks for the link. They look good but not the stock smoked look I'm looking for. You can tell it's painted or coated with something. I had a VW Golf III before my WRX and Hella made smoked tails for it. The actual lenses were smoked. No layers of paint or spray. That's what I'm looking for. I don't want to take chances on chipping or scratching.

I'm pretty sure no sells the blacked out or smoked lenses for the wrx. I do know that you can take your car to a shop and they will smoke them for you.

If you live in southern california, Wet Works Garage does custom smoking jobs.

Here are some examples:

The tails on the top car look good but the bottom looks too painted. You can tell it is spray-on tint in the second pic. I'm in NJ so it doesn't matter anyway, can't drop them off to a shop in Cali.

I'm sure theres a shop in NJ that'll do it for you, I don't think it's a very difficult procedure. This guy a Vishnu charges like $75, pretty good deal.

I saw a silver 03 WRX wagon in the subaru dealer showroom here in Ontario Canada that had the smoked tails done by factory. I think they are the same lights that are on the sedan so I imagine you might be able to order them through your dealer.

Wagon lights and sedan lights are completely different, both in size and shape. The wagon lights look sort of like up-side down sedan lights. But smoking lenses works on all lenses, so it would work either way. But are you sure it's from the factory? That would be cool since I'm getting my rex soon.

the dealer said it was from factory but they could always be lieing
