Wow Cullen, just wow.
That's so dead sexy, and yes, I wish I thought of it.
BTW. Hardly anybody is on from when you were a regular. A few, but most are just using FB.
Humph,Lookit' my date registered: Apr 2003! Yer' all a bunch-o- newbs Plus I grew up with shaker hood scoops. I like it but you ain't showin' me nuttin' new. What's next? An "Air Grabber?"
Yo Fidrat, you just painted yourself old !! I also grew up with shaker hoods, but they were on Mopars and such. Are you sharing nothing positive towards my hard work ?
Thanks to Randy and Adair for the compliments. BTW Adair, how did you get a Mikey tune all the way down in Tenessee ?
I'm sorry.I didn't mean to come off like that. I'll be 49 next month. Unless I live to be 98 (possible but not likely) I'm beyond middle aged so I guess that makes me old. I was actually trained on and the last person who "tuned" a car of mine used this.

Actually I love it and I'm INSANELY jealous. I get SCOOP ENVY every time I see a bugeye with a JDM STi hood scoop. Seeing a modern car that I own with a shaker that actually works...Well I just lost my mind.
Thanks Fidrat, I knew you'd like it !! I'm only just a little older than you (51) and I always say "it's never too late to have a happy childhood" !! I've been talking about doing this since '05 or '06, and now that I know how easy it was, I'm not sure why I waited so long.
The instructions are simple: use a cut-off wheel to buzz the tabs that the scoop mounts to. On the front section I had to cut the underside layer of sheet metal off about an inch under the scoop opening. Then use a burr and some hand filing to get the opening uniform around the stamped section of scoop hole. Use rubber edge molding (like for protecting doors) to finish the hole cleanly.
For mounting the scoop to the intercooler, I used a factory STi chimney (since I have an STi TMIC) which I cut and reshaped a bit. I drilled holes for the scoop to bolt too on the chimney sheet metal. Then I drilled holes on each side of the intercooler (where they are just a flat lip) to mount the chimney with scoop. The hardest part was getting it centered and level since the intercooler never sits quite perfect. I used aluminum and rubber spacers to get the height just right so that the scoop fits just under the opening.
As you can see, I started with a Sedona red hood and a CF scoop. I painted the scoop to match the body color (blue ridge pearl) and the hood satin black to match the roof (satin black vinyl wrap to cover up failed cloudy clear coat
As you can see in the second and third pics, I trimmed the chimney sheetmetal back since there was no purpose for the extra width and it interfered with the rad cap on the upper reservoir and fuel lines.
