yup, that's exactly what it is used for. My parents old 87? Dodge Caravan had a 5 speed with the same lockout. Reason for it there was, if I remember correctly, reverse was up and left, not down and right. So you think you're shifting into 1st, whoops! You shifted into Reverse! Lockout plate prevents that

The Focus has it, SAAB's have it, the STI has it, and VW have them becuase there reverse is like going into first gear.

as stated just above several other car companies use that. I remember VW and audi having it. I think I've driven a BMW or two with it, or you have to push down and then to the left to get it in reverse.

I've driven several 5 speeds that have the same or similar features. whereas the vette, camero ss, and ws6 TA have 6 speeds but no plate you have to lift up [if I remember right]

yeah guys c'mon hence the ....."generally" in quotations... meaning it will be seen "generally" on a 6spd due to the awkwardness of shifting. and having 6 be where reverse normally is. and of coarse there is the audi bmw vw front very left reverse,

Gregory-
keep it in the dirt.
