Safe numbers for what? Having your egt gauge in the d/p? The temps will be lower for sure the further away from the cylinders you are. Yes, you could technically run your egt gauge in your d/p, but that's only if you knew what your actually egt readings were that are coming out of your block and then compare them to the d/p temps. But we can't tell you the exact egt temps that are coming out of your block. If you have an egt bung in a cat-less up-pipe i'd go with that before the d/p.The closer to the cylinders the better.
