Odd Noise From The Trunk 5 Door
So, Here's to hoping this is in the correct thread.
Problem: I took a canyon road on my way to work this morning and I noticed a very odd noise coming from what seemed like the interior of my 5 door trunk. There was a faint squeak on the rear passenger side.
After doing some searching the forums I was left kinda lost. So I decided to have a buddy watch the trunk while I took it for circles in the parking lot. Turned out to be the Cargo Cover rubbing on the plastic cutout in the trunk. The cargo cover is spring loaded and I figure in the California heat the spring has gotten a bit loose and is allowing the cover to move.
Solution: So I found a simple solution to the problem. Sorbothane. I pulled the cargo cover off and I cut a 1x1 square out of it and replaced the cargo cover. Sorbothane is used as a sound and vibration damper and its available on amazon in square foot sheets for a few dollars. With the pad under the cargo cover spring it is nice a quiet. = )
TLDR : cargo cover squeaks, use a piece of rubber to stop the squeak.
