new car engine rust

I recently bought a 2012 WRX sedan with 900 miles on it. Snooped around the engine just to get familiar with my new toy and i noticed rust buildup around the flange where the turbo connects to the downpipe. I know this is normal for new cars (but still concerning to see on a new car!) to already have engine rust but what I am wondering is if the rust will eat through or if Subaru puts some kind of protectant for engine rust. Gonna use WD-40 and wire brush to scrape it off, but also wondering what some of you out there use to clean your engines.

Ah ran into the same thing when changing downpipes after taking off the heat shield. But was assured it was completely fine. Still made me feel nervous when you shell out so much money on a brand new car and you see rust. -_-
