Brandon, I read your post this afternoon before I drove home this evening, I grabbed a beer and sat down in the garage, I just couldnt get over that damn gap.
5 minutes later I had it dis-mounted and I cut off those metal tabs, definitely a good call. Im much happier with the look and ill take the little bit of extra clearance,
I also used your idea of making it detachable in case it were to catch on road debris, I used 1/8 EZ-rip Zip ties along all but the rear 2 body pins. It feels very solid but Im pretty sure the zip ties would fail before my bumper.
I think the final result is very clean and it matches the plasti-dip black I did on the bumper side panels. Its definitely something I can take pride in driving around with.
