I just installed my leather console cover and the shift & e-brake boots are next. I was wondering if there was anything I need to watch out for when I start taking the console apart. Also, I am going to replace the stock shifter with a short shifter. Any recommendations on a good short shifter?
+1 for the kartboy, the cobb short throw makes it look like its infinitely adjustable but adjusting it beyond a certain point will hold you out of certain gears.
Things to watch out for, there are 2 boots on the shifter, One is for insulation and the other is on top for looks, Just be careful not to stretch or tear the insulation boot. also you will need a pair of snap ring pliers to remove the shifter from the housing so make sure you have one before you start that project.
I have the cobb one, it is too adjustable. Get it set wrong and you cant change gears. If the top part is to low, it wont clear the boot clip and you can damage it, I have. Its a great product, but If I was to get another one it woild be the kartboy one. Best upgrade with the ss kit is shifter bushings. Those wjll improve the feel of the shifter the most.
I went with the Kartboy short shifter & bushings. It feels sooo much better. That is by far the best upgrade I've done. The leather e-brake & shifter boots are so much nicer than the vinyl boots. it looks like it should have came that way from the factory. I'm not 100% on the shift knob yet. It feels a lot better than the factory knob but it's very, for lack of a better word, bright. Maybe I'm not used to it yet but it seems like it is a little much. You know, like an extremely beautiful girl with a nose ring. Yeah she's hot but did she really need that? No offence to all the people with nasal piercings!
I got Cobb's black resin shift knob and I love it if you decide to go for something a little less chromy I think it looks clean though. Nice choice on shifter. I also think it's one of the best mods I've done.
Yes, the bushings are a must! That is my favorite mod so far, it made the biggest difference on how everything felt. The master cylinder brace was great, but after installing the short shifter & bushings it felt like a different car. Well, that might be a little extreme but that made the biggest difference.
