Pretty sure the answer is no on that, I think the STi radiator cap is just bling bling.

STi cap is made to hold more pressure...
In a cooling system, a higher pressure equates to a higher boiling point for the coolant. The STi cap will vent at a higher temperature and pressure than the WRX cap. Once the radiator cap has opened and vented coolant, the engine will not cool down until it has been turned off, so you want the radiator to vent at the highest possible pressure for your radiator. Since the radiator is capable of holding more PSI than the OEM cap, a replacement cap will give you a small advantage for high speed/high demand racing.

so it's not just bling on all cars (just on most )

That being said, the difference range for the caps is in the upper end of temperature, so your thermostat will be wide open by the time there is an effective difference in the caps anyway, so I see no reason for a different thermostat.

99% of them are standard radiator caps with an STi decal on them. If you get it from a Subaru dealer, it may be made a little differently, but you won't see any difference in performance, or need any other equipment. However, if you really want to spend that kind of money on a radiator cap, I have a nice bridge I'd be willing to sell you....
