As the first official ice cold day of the year a few days ago (tiz the season) my battery had no charge since then wont hold a charge longer then 6 hours, i need a new battery. I called my mechanic and he told me all the auto part stores sell junk they dont last long. He recommended a interstate battery, i was looking into the optima there not too far off from a autozone battery by like 40 bucks on ebay. I have read some forms i did my study.... but everyone seemed to have a different answer i also heard that the positive cable isnt long enough and needs a reverse is there a direct fit battery? no adjustments just a simple swap? if so can i have the part number if anyone can provided it for the red top. That being said i might just buy a simple duralast one for now beats standing in the cold holding jumper cables. If i can find the exact match on for the optima might go that rout its worth the wait. I dont have any super gadgets just a Type R sub with a Alpine amp of around 700 RMS watt it hits pretty hard but i dont blast it unless the car is running.
Thanks for your time everyone
i went to check out the 2015 STI the other day i sat down and was nice i seen the price and walked away haha was 45k
Personally I would take an AGM battery over an auto parts retail store battery any day. Interstate ran ads a while back that made it sound like they were the only ones on the block with Absorbed Glass Mat batteries, most brands make an AGM battery but they are usually a bit more expensive. The upside is much more contact with the dielectric which means better cold starts and more stable voltage. the downside is they are sealed and they dont like being drained below 11.5v.
Optima makes batteries with the "Reversed Post" If the ones you are looking at dont have that designation then they most likley wont fit correctly.
For my money ist gotta be a Die Hard AGM battery, Im pretty sure their gold and platinum lione are AGM. You can get them at sears. If you dont have a sears nearby pep-boys sells Bosch batteries and their platinum line is AGM as well.
I have the Optima red top. I had to put in a longer positive cable and fits a little big but I got it back in 07. Iowa winters are extreme to say the least. It has never let me down and it looks cool. and it's AGM spiral cell. That's 7 YEARS and it's showing no signs of wearing out. That's unheard of around here.
My other cars get the duralast GOLD from Autozone The GOLD is just a re-labeled Die-hard. They come off the same line. I have a hard time believing that where you get a battery matters.
I've had batteries that are too far gone to get the fuel pump to kick on and no amount of dragging the car around with my cousin's truck would get it to start.
I had a dodge neon that beyond the beyond of dead. We dragged it down the road couldn't get it to pop start.
